Terms of Use for SafeScan QR
These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to the SafeScan QR app for Android ("the app"), published by Israel Mahalla ("we", "us"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. How the app handles your data is described in the SafeScan QR Privacy Policy.
1. The App
SafeScan QR scans QR codes and barcodes and checks the links in them for signs of phishing, malware and other risks. Some features are available only with SafeScan QR Pro ("Pro"). The app shows what Pro includes before you buy it.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and to the Google Play terms. The app and its content belong to us or to our licensors. Open-source components are provided under their own licenses, listed in the app under Settings > Open-source licenses.
2. Pro: Purchase, Renewal and Cancellation
- Plans: Pro is offered as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app and in Google Play before you buy.
- Payment: All purchases are processed by Google Play, under its terms. We do not receive your payment details.
- Renewal: A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it in Google Play. If a plan includes a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
- Cancellation: You can cancel at any time in Google Play. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds: Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policies.
- Lifetime: A Lifetime purchase is a one-time payment that gives you Pro for as long as we offer and support the app, not for the lifetime of the purchaser. It includes Google Web Risk checks on the same terms and with the same limits as a subscription (section 3).
3. Google Web Risk Checks (Pro)
- What it is: Pro includes checking scanned links against Google Web Risk, Google's index of suspected phishing, malware and unwanted software, through a server we operate. It needs an internet connection, and a device and app that Google Play confirms as genuine; devices it does not confirm (for example rooted devices or unofficial builds) cannot use it.
- Limits: Up to 500 checks a calendar month, counted on each device, and up to 30 checks in 24 hours for each Pro purchase, counted by our server. The 24 hours start with the first check, not at midnight. We may also limit how many checks can be made within a short time, to protect the service from automated use.
- When a limit is reached: Web Risk is unavailable until the period ends. Links are still checked with the threat lists on your device and with encrypted DNS.
- Changes: We may change these limits or how the checks work. If a change reduces what an existing Pro purchase includes, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days before it applies to you. If you do not accept the change, you may cancel your subscription.
- Dependence on Google: Web Risk is provided by Google. If Google changes, suspends or ends it, or changes its terms or prices, we may change or end Web Risk checks in the app. We will give you at least 30 days' notice where we can. Pro features that work on your device remain available.
4. Acceptable Use
You may not:
- try to bypass the limits in section 3 or the checks that control access to our server;
- access our server other than through the app, or use it for automated or bulk checks;
- interfere with the app or our server, or with their security;
- use the app for any unlawful purpose.
We may block access to our server for a purchase or device that is used in breach of this section.
5. Third-Party Services
The app relies on services provided by others, including Google Play, Google Web Risk, Google ML Kit, Quad9, Cloudflare, VirusTotal and domain registries. Their availability is not under our control, and their own terms apply to them. What each of them receives is described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Security Disclaimer
SafeScan QR provides automated heuristic analysis, scheme gating, redirect resolution, and multi-tier threat intelligence as an informational and assistive cybersecurity utility. However, no automated scanning tool can guarantee 100% detection of all cyber threats, zero-day vulnerabilities, or targeted phishing campaigns.
- No Endorsement: A "Destination Confirmed" or verified security badge verifies that the URL resolution chain reached a structurally valid web resource and did not trigger known threat blacklists at the time of the scan. It does not constitute an endorsement or absolute guarantee of the destination website’s ultimate safety, intent, or content.
- User Responsibility: Users remain solely responsible for exercising caution, inspecting URLs before submitting sensitive passwords or financial credentials, and deciding whether to interact with external sites.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
- "As Is": The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
- Limitation of Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developers and publishers of SafeScan QR shall not be held liable for any damages, losses, malware infections, unauthorized data disclosure, or phishing scams arising from opening or interacting with external links or downloaded files, or from reliance on any result shown by the app.
- Your Statutory Rights: Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability, or any right you have as a consumer, that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updates will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using the app and cancel your subscription.
9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the competent courts of the Central District of Israel have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and you may bring proceedings in its courts.
10. Language
These Terms are also available in Hebrew. If the versions differ, this English version prevails.
